CATARACT SURGERY

Microincision Cataract Surgery MICS – 1.8mm

Swayam Eye Hospital & Retina Centre was one on the first hospitals to perform this advanced cataract surgery. We have facilities to perform cataract surgery through all the 3 incision sizes i.e 1.8 mm, 2.2 mm & 2.8 mm. We perform cataract surgeries under Topical & local anaesthesia (monitored anaesthetic care) making the patient very comfortable. We are equipped with all the facilities to manage the most complicated cataract cases like hard brown & black cataracts, Subluxated & Dislocated cataracts, Congenital posterior capsular dehiscence cataracts, Congenital cataracts in children & Post retinal surgery cataracts, High myopia & high hyperopia with Cataract etc. Dr Amarjeet is one of the most renowned Cataract surgeon & also a Vitreoretinal surgeon which enables him to do the most complicated cases with ease.

At our centre Cataract surgery can be easily performed through 1.8mm incision size & a specially designed lens is implanted through the same incision.

Our machine is completely programmable (Power & Duty cycle) & has wireless foot switch which enables fast & safe Phaco surgery without surgeon having to use more power. We have the most advanced Phaco machine – Oertli ( Switzerland) which can manage the most complicated and hard cataracts with ease and almost no damage to surrounding structures.

Glare & altered contrast sensitivity.

Extended depth of focus IOL do not have transition zones & hence provide clear distant & near vision without glasses & is free of side effects of multifocal lenses like night vision glare & altered contrast sensitivity. Thus, these lenses provide higher quality of vision & are preferred lenses even in diabetic & highly myopic patients where multifocal & trifocal lenses are relatively contraindicated. However, a proper case selection is of utmost importance & the choice of IOL is recommended by our doctors & counsellors.

VITREO - RETINAL SURGERY:

Sutureless Vitrectomy 23 & 25 G

SEHRC is equipped with state of art vitrectomy machine – Retikare which is a real boon to retinal surgeries. It has a 10000 cut rate and enables a sutureless retinal surgery with 23G and 25G It takes only 3.5 mins to do a complete vitrectomy which reduces the average operating time of retinal surgeries to 30- 40 mins. It has a dual light source which gives excellent illumination during surgery & we have a wide-angle visualizing system (Oculus BIOM) for visualizing the retina in difficult conditions like small pupil size, cataracts,s, etc. It has an automated silicone oil injector & extractor which enable easy silicone oil injection & removal. As this machine is compact & sleek it occupies less space in the operation theatre which enables easy retinal surgery as retinal surgery requires multiple instruments. Swayam Eye hospital is equipped with the latest A/ Bscan for accuracy in calculation of IOL power. The B scan ultrasound enables us to evaluate the posterior segment of the eye in hazy media. B scan allows us to evaluate the posterior segment in difficult situations like vitreous hemorrhage (bleeding), endophthalmitis (infection), and trauma & ocular tumours.

ZEISS VISU 160

Operating Microscope with Oculus BIOM (Germany) Non contact visualizing system for retinal surgeries

Swayam Eye hospital is equipped with the state of art operating microscope (VISU 160). This enables the surgeon to have an accurate visualization of ocular structures & thus enables high precision cataract & retinal surgeries. It also has a stereoscopic diagonal inverter & BIOM (Binocular Indirect OphthalmoMicroscopy) for wide angle retinal viewing. This enables us to perform non contact vitreous surgeries with wide angle viewing which is a unique advantage

RETINAL LASERS - RETINAL DIODE LASER

Swayam Eye hospital is equipped with all the wavelengths of retinal lasers i.e the green & red (532nm & 810nm). We have all the three laser delivery systems namely, laser indirect ophthalmoscopy (LIO), endolaser & slit lamp delivery system for all the lasers. This enables us to manage patients with any retinal diseases effectively. The green laser is used for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, diode laser retinopexy for retinal tears & holes etc. The red laser is mainly used as intraoperative laser & also for conditions like ARMD & ocular tumours (Transpupillary Thermotherapy)

This enables three dimensional imaging of the retina & allows detection of disorders upto 5 microns. It has revolutionized decision making in ophthalmology has given us a better understanding of retinal & optic nerve diseases. It is also useful for supplementing the diagnosis & management of Glaucoma.

YAG LASER - APPASAMY SYSTEMS

Swayam Eye hospital is equipped with fundus photography & fluorescein angiography system which is useful in management & documentation of various retinal & optic nerve disorders. It enables us to do angiography of the retina which is important for retinal diseases like diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, Eales disease, CSR etc. Angiography is useful in identifying the new blood vessels or ischemia (decreased blood supply) & also to identify the areas of leakage from the blood vessels. This works as a guide for treatment of various retinal diseases.
